According to
ArtsBeat,
Jeff Koons—international art commodity, inflatable animal
fetishist, Michael Jackson
sculptor and decorator of
yachts belonging to wealthy industrialists—will be curating an exhibition of works from the collection of that very same wealthy industrialist (
Dakis Joannou) at the
New Museum in February. Joannou, an uber-wealthy Greek fellow with one of Europe's richest private collections of contemporary art, has been one of Koons's chief patrons and promoters since they first met in 1985—at, appropriately, a show of Koons's work on the Lower East Side.
In addition to pieces by Koons (pictured), Joannou's collection includes the likes of Vanessa Beecroft, Michael Bevilacqua, Cai Guo-Qiang, Matt Greene, Mike Kelley, Joseph Kosuth, Liza Lou, Takashi Murakami, Shirin Neshat, Gabriel Orozco, Yinka Shonibare MBE, Kara Walker and more. All of which is to say that Koons's first foray into curation, in addition to presumably featuring quite a bit of his own harmlessly pretty work, should be fairly spectacular.
