
On the happier, more New York-related side of things Canadian and artsy, the Globe and Mail reports that David Altmejd has received the 2009 Sobey Art Award. The $50,000 prize is awarded to emerging Canadian artists, and though the New York-based 35 year-old isn't exactly emerging—he represented Canada at the 2006 Venice Biennale and is handled by the big-wigs at Andrea Rosen Gallery in Chelsea—his haunting and spectacular sculptures and installations (pictured) certainly deserve recognition.
