Guggenheim Turns 50, Lays Anish Kapoor Egg (and it's free all day today)

Anish Kapoor Memory
In case the color of the Empire State Building hadn't already prompted you to stop and take notice, today is the 50th anniversary of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. In addition to the current Kandinsky retrospective—itself an homage to the most prominent artist in the museum's collection—today marks the opening of Anish Kapoor's (he of the huge reflective amoebic artworks) giant steampunk egg sculpture (pictured) titled, appropriately, Memory. To sweeten the celebratory deal, entry to the Guggenheim (1071 Fifth Ave at 89th St) is free all day today, with special events—a Twitter tour (?)—and giveaways (tote bags! cookies!) throughout the day.
