Music Lil Wayne Does "Run This Town" Right

While reviewing Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 I complained that even though "Run This Town" is an amazing beat, Jigga never quite figured out how to nail it, and it ends up being a Rihanna and Kanye song. Well, newly jail-bound Lil Wayne took a crack at it—no word on whether this was before or after pleading guilty, but the intensity and desperation in his voice suggests the latter. Consider this freestyle Wayne's response to our own Mark Asch's pondering: "Is it bad that I'm really looking forward to hearing what Weezy records between now and his prison term?"

I especially like this part: "Man I go crazy on the beat, I go nimrod/man I act a ass, treat the beat like a hemorrhoid/man I got to work on a beat, call it employed/man I kicks it, bitch get your shinguard." Also, the verse where every bar has "super" in it—did I mention that this is a freestyle? At his current release rate, we should have five or six records worth of new Weezy material by the time he heads to jail in February.

It's not bad. As long as he stays away from guitars, I'm psyched to see what he comes up with in interim.
