Art Performa 09 Kicks Off With Times Square Cell Phone Parade

A couple days after the art world's royalty gorged themselves on BBQ and chocolate Jeff Koons bunnies at an exclusive benefit, and the day before Performa 09 actually opened, the inaugural performance of the citywide biennial took place in Times Square on Sunday night. Arto Lindsay organized a parade (see video) of over 50 trench-coated dancers with modified cell phones providing musical accompaniment. Performa TV will feature new videos of performances daily, which is good because there are way too many events to keep track of (although The L's Alexis Clements will be doing her best and blogging about it throughout).
