Tonight: Free Energy at the Bell House

Posted by Mike Conklin on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 5:10 PM

Because I spend all my time writing about Aerosmith and Lady Gaga, I haven't made so much as a peep about Philadelphia's Free Energy yet, which is strange considering I've probably listened to their self-titled debut single more than any other song aside from maybe "Brick By Boring Brick" since I first heard it back in August. It's like Apples in Stereo, Girls, Sloan, the New Pornographers, and the better aspects of Ben Kweller (they exist, I swear) all rolled into one. They're at the Bell House tonight with Small Black and Diehard, and you should go. You're young, after all, and time is on your side.

If you like this one, you will also love their "Dream City". It's even better than Slade:

because i pay attention to anything Conklin posts AND anything that makes passing reference to Paramore, i'm now listening to this song and cannot believe how EXACTLY it sounds like the Flashing Lights.

Oh shit, you're right. God, that one record was so good. And I actually just got the Free Energy full-length in the mail this morning, so I'm gonna listen to that now too. Perhaps I will report back later.
