The Metropolitan Museum's 2010 Exhibition Lineup: Super-Boring

The Metropolitan Museum—which recently quietly divulged its $8.4 million deficit—is really buckling down next year and digging deep into its permanent collection to cut costs. Artnet reports that on Monday New York's biggest art museum announced its program of exhibitions for 2010, and let's just say that you probably won't be visiting the Met anytime soon.

Here's a taste of what they've got going up next year: a show of drawings by Agnolo Bronzino (1503-1572) opens in January, followed by The Art of Victorian Photocollage in February (which, okay, might actually be interesting), medieval illuminations by the Limbourg Brothers in March, a show of all 150 works by Pablo Picasso from the museum's collection—the only obvious blockbuster show announced so far—runs April 27 to August 1, and, as usual, the Costume Institute's exhibition, American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity (May 5 to August 15), sounds the most compelling. Presumably this preliminary schedule will get filled out with more traveling shows and exhibitions from the collection, and maybe even (gasp!) some contemporary art. Until then, well, I hear MoMA has some great shows planned for next year.
