You see, I think we took a lot for granted when Obama was elected alongside a double democratic majority, and we failed to fully appreciate the degree to which the conservative right would mobilize. Look, unlike some, I wasn't exactly expecting miracles, but from the first Tea Parties on Tax Day, through the Town Hall interruptions in August, a small, very vocal minority has scripted the political theater in this country. And I don't care if it's all been funded by evil corporate cabals, or if it isn't really a true representation of grass roots sentiment, THAT DOESN'T MATTER: they've been loud enough to change the way policy is being made... and we haven't. Sure, I know Clinton had a terrible first year, and that politics is nothing but dissatisfaction and heartbreak, but right about now I'd say there are actually some pretty satisfied wingnuts out there, who know they've altered the course of American (and world) history. And that's just hard to take.
