Lately Brooklyn Flea
has been splitting its time between a pop-up shop
here in Dumbo and a holiday gift center
in Manhattan at the old Tower Records space on Broadway. But beginning January 9 and continuing every weekend through March, when the outdoor food, craft and curio market goes back outside, Brooklyn Flea will be moving into the swankiest digs the borough has to offer: the former bank lobby (pictured) at the Williamsburg Savings Bank building (now condo development 1 Hanson Place) in downtown Brooklyn.
Founder Eric Demby told The Cut that he wanted to set up the market's eating area in the bank's vault. Even if that doesn't pan out, between the space's massive arched ceilings, immense floor space and exquisite architectural detailing, this will be a great opportunity to see Brooklyn's most beautiful room, whether or not you plan on buying anything. Hopefully the lavish venue won't inspire vendors to mark up their wares.
