It’s totally, officially, undeniably, very cold outside, which makes getting motivated to go out and do anything after work next to impossible, especially since you haven’t watched the premiere of The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love from last night yet (he’s a pilot, it’s incredible). Somehow, though, you should find it in you to trudge out to Brooklyn Bowl for Real Estate and The Babies. It’s free, for starters. Real Estate sounds like summer, which certainly doesn't hurt. Plus, they’re mega-popular now and are about to head off to Europe where they’ll become international figureheads for wistful, washy pop bands singing about American suburbia, so it’s your last chance to see them before they forget about us lowly Brooklynites and move into Westchester mansions. (This is a lie: They play Music Hall of Williamsburg with Woods on March 12.) And the Babies? They’re a new-ish band featuring Kevin Morby of Woods and Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls, and they sound like they’re a couple of rambunctious kids living in the 1950s — also a more endearing version of the Black Lips — with scrappy, timeless hooks that make you really happy to be alive. We posted an unofficial video for their song “Meet Me in the City” after the jump to prove it.
