Green Day's American Idiot Musical Officially Broadway-Bound

American Idiot at Berkeley Rep
After a wildly successful, extended run at Berkeley Rep and, presumably, a little tweaking over the winter, Green Day's musical American Idiot will begin performances on Broadway on March 24, with opening night set for April 20. Though the move was already quite clear before the premiere West Coast run even ended back in November, Upstaged reports that firm dates and a venue were only announced yesterday. Idiot will take over the St. James Theater—where Finian's Rainbow is about to close—for an open-ended run.

No major casting announcements have been made, but with Spring Awakening’s director Michael Mayer at the helm and Tony-winner John Gallagher, Jr. (pictured) likely to stay on in the lead role, the show already has a great deal of the big-name bonafides that Broadway demands nowadays covered.
