In order to avoid finding myself in the situation I've found myself in at the end of pretty much every year since around 1999, where I'm left desperately digging through stacks of records, or my hard drive, or other people's year-end lists to make sure I haven't forgotten anything from the preceding 11.5 months, I'm going to try something new. Well,
new for me anyway: A running list of the new songs and albums I like most throughout the year, presented mostly, if not entirely, without commentary aside from what you'll find in our reviews or on the blog. My hope is that, in addition to making my life easier when it comes time for year-end silliness to take over, it will present a relatively accurate snapshot of what music was all about in 2010. This seems somewhat unlikely, of course, because I'm just one person with my own pigheaded taste in things, but at the very least, it will wind up being a completely sick playlist for me to listen to over holiday break.
The list will live right here all year long. And yes, the paragraph you just read will serve as the intro thing for it, because I'm tired and do not want to write another one. By the time Monday rolls around and this post disappears off the homepage, we will have figured out some other simple way for you to access it whenever you please. And when I say we, I just mean someone who is not me because I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to get something like that accomplished.
In the meantime, Ke$ha!
