Gentrification Billboards Appear in Downtown Brooklyn

Specter Gentrification Billboards MoCADA
As part of the upcoming exhibition The Gentrification of Brooklyn: The Pink Elephant Speaks opening Thursday at Downtown Brooklyn's Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), New York-based street artist Specter was commissioned to create a series of hilarious billboards addressing the area's current extensive and accelerated gentrification, particularly though not exclusively in light of the Atlantic Yards project. The series of four billboards makes light of the conspicuous consumption patterns of invading yuppie families (as above), and takes a jab at the neighborhood-destroying Atlantic Yards stadium-condo-eminent domain disaster. If the rest of the exhibition is as good as these ads, MoCADA might have one of the sleeper hit shows of the year. (WoosterCollective)
