Village Voice music editor Rob Harvilla interviewed Merrill Garbus, the sole proprietor of Tune-Yards for this week's issue. She speaks candidly and eloquently about the intimate subject matter of her songs, the dynamic between performer and audience, and, most notably, the responsibilities of artists who choose to borrow from African music to engage in serious dialogue about it.
