Yesterday the
Metropolitan Museum announced that Beacon, New York-based twin brother artist duo
Mike and Doug Starn will be this summer's rooftop artists. After last year's metallic tree forms courtesy
Roxy Paine, we'll be treated to a bamboo water-like form that's part installation, part sculpture and part performance. "Big Bambú" (pictured at right in detail, in full after the jump) is a sprawling, cresting and crashing massive bamboo and rope construction that evokes the forms of bridges and waves, and has
previously been assembled in the duo's massive upstate studio.
The construction process will be part of the exhibition, with the artists and a construction crew assembling the 3,200 bamboo poles throughout the run of the exhibition beginning on April 27. And here's the best part: visitors will be allowed to climb on it! Start training right away by climbing on the duo's tree-shaped metal fences in their most recent
permanent public installation in the South Ferry subway station.
