- Muhly wrote an opera...in his own blood!
Nico Muhly, the (uh, post-minimalist?) composer whom you all surely remember from
Rebecca Mead's profile, has written his first opera. With a libretto by Craig Lucas, who wrote the book for
The Light in the Piazza, the opera "is a fictionalized story based on a true incident in which a teenager attempts to arrange his own murder via the internet." Neat!
Bartlett Sher, fresh off of The Tales of Hoffman, will direct the production that will premiere at the English National Opera's London Coliseum next summer; it'll make it to the Met in 2013-2014. Mark your calendars!
