By now you're hopefully aware that we're currently accepting submissions for the sixth annual Literary Upstart pocket fiction competition. (Briefly, Upstart welcomes previously unpublished stories of 1,500 words or less; we'll invite our favorites to vie for a cash prize and publication in the L at three semifinal readings this spring, and then the final in the summer. Full submissions guidelines here.)

So! This year's Literary Upstart readings will be held, as in the recent past, at the Slipper Room on the Lower East Side. For short fiction readings, witty literary banter, boozy and pseudo-witty literary banter, awkward literary trivia competitions, and a general sense of camaraderie forged under the harsh klieg lights of public spectacle, join us on these dates...

Monday, April 19
Monday, May 17
Wednesday, June 9
And the finals, on Wednesday, July 7.

Stay tuned for more announcements about judges, drink specials, and more.
