It Came from Brooklyn: Grimaldi's to Open First Manhattan Location in Chelsea Church

Grimaldis Pizzeria
Grimaldi's Pizzeria, the venerable Dumbo pie purveyor where L Mag staffers and Secret Servicemen alike chow down on delicious brick oven pizza, will be opening its first Manhattan branch in the Chelsea mall zone along Sixth Avenue next month. According to the Post, starting in mid-April Grimaldi's will be open 24-hours-a-day in a food-court type space being built in the church and former Avalon nightclub at the corner of Sixth Ave and 20th Street.

Despite the obvious draw for late-night, post-bar eaters, owner Frank Ciolli tells the Post that it'll be “more of a family place,” and that customers will be given beepers so that they can go wander around the mall while they wait for their pizzas, which, yay?! Dismayed purists, don't fret, another Manhattan Grimaldi's expected to open later this year right across the river from homebase in the Financial District promises an eating experience more akin to the original.
