Davy, Daaaavy Crockett, Dead at the Age of 85

On the heels of Alex Chilton's death comes news that Fess Parker has died. Not only a huge televisions star of the 1950s, known for his portrayal of Davy Crockett—the king of the wild frontier, yes—Parker was also a child's-fashion icon, helping to move all of those coonskin caps. Parker, who later became a vintner, initially attracted the attention of Disney executives for his part in the sci-fi classic Them! Lucky for us, he performed his own eulogy decades ago.
