The New Face of Crime in Brooklyn
  • The New Face of Crime in Brooklyn
Like unwitting players in a dystopic totalitarian farce, Marine Park-residents Rose and Walter Martin have been visited at their home by police more than 50 times in the last eight years, the Daily News reports. The NYPD said it was the result of a computer error: using the couple's address in a test of the computer system in 2002, it (presumably) accidentally became the default address for a litany of robbers, rapists and killers, who detectives came looking for, sometimes three times a week.

But the house has long had some kind of curse: the previous owner sold it, and left New York, because police and firefighters kept showing up at his home, at least 30 times between 1994 and 1997. Investigators believed calls were made by a bad neighbor from various local payphones. "I always thought I was being targeted personally," the former owner, still so scared he asked not to be identified, told the News. "And, to be honest with you, it freaks me out that it's happening again." Did anyone think to check if a crime happened there in the 1920s to which a ghost might be trying to draw attention?
