Over at
Modern Art Notes, Tyler Green has organized an elaborate championship bracket for art buffs dubbed
The Greatest Living American Abstract Painter Tourney-ish. Round 1
ended over the weekend, with only one major upset: 23rd seed
Helen Frankenthaler crushing 10th-seeded
Mark Grotjahn with 71% of the vote. Things get tougher in the second round, for which voting starts on Wednesday, including a showdown between Frank Stella and Brice Marden, and another between Cy Twombly and Julie Mehretu (pictured). Their half of the bracket seems more open and unpredictable, whereas in the top half, top-seeded Ellsworth Kelly has a pretty direct line to the finals. Wow, it's almost as exciting as actual
March Madness!
