Among the millions of images available on its recently revamped prints and photographs
database, the Library of Congress has uploaded its
huge collection of Farm Security Administration, Work Projects Administration and Office of War Information black and white negatives, as well as Civil War photos for the history buffs, collections of pre-1915
Japanese prints for you Orientalists,
landmarked building renovation images for the handy-men and -women, and a collection of
political cartoons for the pundits.
The site's a little slow (it's not Google, after all), but well worth wading through to find spectacular and often uncredited, caption-less shots of every walk of Depression-era American life and World War II. It's like a Flickr photostream from the past! (ModernArtNotes)
