Film Red Dawn and the Evolution of the Modern Blockbuster

A week from now, the L copresents a Film Comment Selects screening of Red Dawn at the Walter Reade Theater, followed by an afterparty featuring an open bar and DJs spinning 80s hip-hop. Last summer, Matt Zoller Seitz and Aaron Aradillas looked at the film in their epic five-part Evolution of the Modern Blockbuster series (which is always worth revisiting from start to finish). In Part 2, dealing with the summer of '84, they tackled Red Dawn, breaking down the Reaganite mythmaking of the first-ever PG-13 film—video after the jump.
