Will the Alot Become the First Grammatically Correct Meme?

Posted by on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 4:33 PM

Alot
Annoyed internaut and grammatical stickler Allie of Hyperbole and a Half has a constructive solution to the impoverishment of language in hyperspace in a blog post today: namely, a new meme creature borne of linguistic laziness, the Alot (pictured). Unlike, say, the LOLcats kitties at I Can Has Cheezburger? and the purposefully misspeaking puppies at I Has Hotdog!, Allie sees the Alot as "a cross between a bear, a yak and a pug" that manifests itself whenever someone online is too lazy to type "a lot" and types "alot" instead. So, "I like this alot more" (at right), or "I hear that alot," "I'm sad alot," and the like, bring the sometimes-cuddly, sometimes-scary Alot around.

We at The L like this idea, and care about this alot.

The L cares about this Alot

See how easy it is? (TheDailyWhat)
