Annoyed internaut and grammatical stickler Allie of
Hyperbole and a Half has a constructive solution to the impoverishment of language in hyperspace in a
blog post today: namely, a new meme creature borne of linguistic laziness, the Alot (pictured). Unlike, say, the LOLcats kitties at
I Can Has Cheezburger? and the purposefully misspeaking puppies at
I Has Hotdog!, Allie sees the Alot as "a cross between a bear, a yak and a pug" that manifests itself whenever someone online is too lazy to type "a lot" and types "alot" instead. So, "I like this alot more" (at right), or "
I hear that alot," "
I'm sad alot," and the like, bring the sometimes-cuddly, sometimes-scary Alot around.
We at The L like this idea, and care about this alot.
See how easy it is? (
