South Park and Avenue Q Creators Bringing Mormon Musical to Broadway

Earlier this year when news broke that
South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker and
Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez would premiere a stage musical in New York, the
theater blogs said it would be Off-Broadway at the New York Theater Workshop, but according to
ArtsBeat the trio's
The Book of Mormon will open at an as yet unspecified Broadway theater in March 2011. The musical will reportedly juxtapose the experiences of two young Mormon missionaries (as in the opening of
Orgazmo) with the story of church founder and crazy person Joseph Smith. The latter was the subject of a classic
South Park episode (watch a clip after the jump), which probably gives a good sense of what we can expect. Dum dum dum dum dum...
