NWA Biopic Comin' Straight Outta Nowhere

NWA
Yesterday, glorious news broke that NWA, the Los Angeles collective that at various times included Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and MC Ren (and lesser-knowns Tee Jaye, DJ Yella and Arabian Prince) and spearheaded the development of West Coast gangsta rap, will be the subject of a new biopic to be titled "Straight Outta Compton" and written by Andrea Berloff, whose only previous screenwriting credit is for Oliver Stone's World Trade Center. It seems only fitting that after last year's Biggie biopic, Notorious, the next rap act to get the moving timeline treatment should be from the left coast.

There are rumors that Ice Cube and Eazy-E's sons will play their daddies, but will crazy control freak Dre want to play himself? As the film tracks the young group from formation to breakup, won't Dre need to lose a lot of weight for the role, and won't his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones look a little out of place in the late-80s? So many questions. Some will object to the title, wishing that they'd chosen "Fuck Tha Police," but I think "Parental Discretion Iz Advised" would be better still. (HipHopWired)
