Kate Gilmore for Public Art Fund
Kate Gilmore's funny, quirky and often weirdly unsettling video performances about very literally deconstructing and smashing through received notions of femininity seem to be everywhere right now, from recent shows at Postmasters and Exit Art, to the current Whitney Biennial, and now her most ambitious work to date and first public artwork is underway in Bryant Park. Beginning yesterday and through Friday evening, from 8:30am-6:30pm, Gilmore's Walk the Walk has a half-dozen or more women in yellow dresses and beige shoes stomping around atop a yellow cube right in front of the fountain at 41st Street and Sixth Avenue in five hour shifts. Watch an interview with Gilmore and Public Art Fund director Nicholas Baume with footage of Walk the Walk after the jump.
