Literary Upstart, our annual Search for Pocket Fiction and competitive reading series (brought to you by the fine folks at Harper Perennial and the New School), holds its second semifinal reading this coming Monday evening, the 17th of May, at the Slipper Room on the Lower East Side (doors at 7pm).

Last month, the kick-off event featured dollar beers from Dogfish Head, local authors reading stellar unpublished short fiction, smartass audience members answering trivia questions, witty pronouncements from our distinguished panel of judges, and L Magazine staffers yelling at each other from on and near the stage. Who knows what’ll happen tonight? (Note: Pretty much all that, again.)

If it's your dream to be onstage at Upstart, but you find trivia competitions undignified, please be advised that we're accepting submissions through the end of the month.
