Dumbo Art Festival
On Monday the Dumbo Arts Festival announced dates and initial details for its 2010 edition, the 14th year that the neighborhood under the bridges becomes one massive exhibition space for public sculpture, performance, video, installation art and more for one weekend in September. This year the DAF, one of the city's top-two 'hood-wide art fests along with Bushwick Open Studios (June 4-6), an event founded by the non-profit Dumbo Arts Center and produced by neighborhood super-landlord Two Trees Management Co and Dalzell Productions, will take place the weekend of September 24 to 26.

As in previous years, prizes will be given out for Best Outdoor Public Art Installation, Best Indoor Public Art Installation and Best Open Studio (each winner gets $1,000 cash), but this year, for the first time, one of those winners will win the much cooler prize of a one-year rent-free 750-square-foot studio (estimated value $30,000). No word yet on how this super-winner will be determined, but expect artists to pull out all the stops (more free wine!) for that free studio.

Estimated value $30,000. Actual value $1,800. Still awesome.
