Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, who is on a roll, has just signed a law designed to challenge the Tucson school district's ethnic-studies curriculum, by prohibiting "classes that advocate ethnic solidarity, that are designed primarily for students of a particular race or that promote resentment toward a certain ethnic group". (The bill's proponents believe that the school's Mexican-American studies program constitutes "ethnic chauvanism"; the school district doesn't believe the law as written will affect the program.)

The AP reports: "State schools chief Tom Horne, who has pushed the bill for years, said he believes the Tucson school district's Mexican-American studies program teaches Latino students that they are oppressed by white people." Huh.
