This morning the Brooklyn Academy of Music announced the lineup for next season's 2010 Next Wave Festival, the institution's premiere program of performing arts productions from around the world. The dance schedule includes performances by France's Ballet Preljocaj to music by John Cage and the first U.S. performance by Pina Bausch's company since the legendary choreographer's death last year.

The theater program will include: Ridge Theater's music-theater re-imagining of Persephone starring Julia Stiles (pictured); a stage adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's adaption of Macbeth, Throne of Blood, by Ping Chong by way of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; another movie play, Thomas Ostereimer's stage version of Fassbinder's The Marriage of Maria Braun; and an adaptation of Kafka's Metamorphosis by Iceland's Vesturport Theater, with music by Nick Cave, whose last BAM Next Wave appearance was 2008's Woyzeck. The big opera offering will be a new work by Evan Ziporyn, A House in Bali, to be directed by experimental performance maestro Jay Scheib. An exciting lineup despite the absence of an obvious crowd-pleaser like this year's Cate Blanchet-starring Streetcar.
