More Good News for Upper West Side Cyclists: Columbus Avenue Getting Protected Bike Lane

Posted by on Wed, Jun 2, 2010 at 4:34 PM

Last month Upper West Side bikers finally saw the last stretch of the Hudson River Park lane open, and last night Manhattan's Community Board 7 approved another major safety improvement for UWS cyclists by a nail-bitingly slim margin: a protected lane along Columbus Avenue from 77th Street to 96th Street (mockup below). Eventually, presumably, this will link up to the Broadway bike lane that currently stops almost 20 blocks south at Columbus Circle, creating a continuous protected bike way from Greenwich Village to Harlem. Let's not hold our breath on that though. (Streetsblog)
