- Hart Crane, proto-hipster Brooklyn writer.
"Brooklyn as writer's colony" is a long-standing cliche, and like all cliches, has a significant basis in fact: it's true, every second person you meet in this crazy little borough is either finishing a novel, starting a novel, or organizing a reading. So it shouldn't really come as much of a surprise that the Brooklyn Book Festival
is set to feature a pretty impressive line-up come September.
Luminaries will include the likes of Joyce Carol Oates, Dennis Lehane, and Michael Connelly, along with local boys like Colson Whitehead and Jonathan Lethem. I have not yet been asked to attend but am assuming that my invitation will be coming forthwith, hand-delivered by Marty Markowitz dressed up like Walt Whitman.
And so I wait...
