News came yesterday that influential Scottish indie-pop band The Vaselines will release a new album, Sex With An X, on September 14th via Sub Pop. Unbelievably, it's only their second full-length. Their debut, Dum Dum, was released in 1989.

The new album will feature the band's core duo of Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, with additional help from Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson and Bob Kildea on guitar and bass respectively, and Michael McGaughrin from the band 1990s on drums.

The Vaselines are, of course, best known for having one very famous and very influential fan in Kurt Cobain. Over the course of their career Nirvana covered three Vaselines songs: "Molly's Lips" and "Son of a Gun" appeared on Incesticide, while a really wonderful version of "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam" was on the MTV Unplugged album.
