The L Wishes Christopher Hitches a Full and Speedy Recovery

Christopher Hitchens is a great fool in at least as many ways as he's a brilliantly incisive critic of art and ideas, but he's long been making the world a more interesting place on a more or less daily basis, and we at The L are dismayed at the news that Hitchens—who only recently (mostly) quit smoking—has withdrawn from the book tour for his memoir, Hitch-22, to seek treatment for cancer. In a statement released by his publisher, Hitch said:

“I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus. This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice.

"This advice seems persuasive to me." That right there is the kind perfect rhetoric calibration we would like to have around to savor for as long as possible.
