Following
news yesterday of Dance New Amsterdam's likely demise due to a half-million dollar deficit, no Downtown performance venue or company seemed safe, but then we got the best news possible: beloved but soon-to-be evicted for boutique-ification Soho performance venue the
Ohio Theater will be moving in with recently imperiled Financial District venue and company 3LD Art + Technology Center. With the news comes confirmation that, following threats
back in May, the MTA has decided not to evict 3LD from their superb Greenwich Street space.
The three-year residency, dubbed "Ohio Interrupted at 3LD," will provide Robert Lyons' Soho Think Tank company, as well as all the other groups that are Ohio Theater regulars (Clubbed Thumb, New Georges, etc.) a temporary home as they plot their next move. The partnership is a great fit—the theaters have a similarly wide-open, flexible feel despite one being a historic loft and other a spacey-sleek converted parking lot—and makes the already essential 3LD your go-to experimental theater and performance venue for the next three years.
