In yesterday's long article
about the 52,000 Stop and Frisk stops conducted over the last four years in Brownsville, the Times
notes that, in almost half of their reports, "police listed either 'furtive movement,' a catch-all category that critics say can mean anything, or 'other' as the only reason for the stop."
Before you get indignant over the NYPD stopping people in a black neighborhood for looking nervous around, just ask yourself: if they weren't guilty of something, why are they moving about so furtively?
Stop and Frisks in Brownsville have resulted in arrests less than one percent of the time.
