So, about that Surfer Blood — that band from Florida that has catapulted into certifiable blog-buzz gold for their hopelessly catchy guitar rock and whose album might just be the closest thing we have had to Weezer's Blue Album in the last few years — let's talk about them. Last month, we asked a few bands playing outdoor shows in NYC this summer a few high-stakes questions. Surfer Blood's answers came back a bit too late to include with the others, but now is a perfect time to see what guitarist/backup vocalist Thomas Fekete had to say:
What's the best outdoor show you've ever seen?
The best outdoor show I have ever seen was Pavement at Primavera. Brian, Marcos and I were standing together almost in tears underneath a full moon in Barcelona. A religious experience indeed.
What's your vote for Summer Jam of 2010?
My personal Summer Jam of 2010 would have to be Dead Meat's "Electric Head," because I prefer my summer's to be dark and rowdy.
What's your vote for Summer Jam of all time?
All time best Summer Jam is "Cut Your Hair" by Pavement. I dare anyone to try to pick a more fitting summer jam. Everyone in Florida cuts their hair in the beginning of summer because of the heat, and yes, it makes them change.
It's 95 degrees. It's humid. You're playing an outdoor show. Shorts on stage: Yes or no?
Absolutely no shorts ever. I recently bought a Kombucha and shook it up, gave it to JP, and it ended up all over his cut-offs. I am not typically a malicious person, but I was getting desperate.
Will you alter your set at all to account for the more celebratory vibe of an outdoor show?
Absolutely, something HUGE in the works as we speak. Get stoked..
Hear that, New York? Get stoked. Also, wear sunscreen.
