Artists Draw Favorite Film Characters for Hopeful Blog-to-Book Project

Postcards to Alphaville

Pending approval of their portfolio, any artist may contribute to Postcards to Alphaville, a blog with book deal aspirations that features original renderings of beloved movie characters. The only rule, aside from a portfolio review, is that artists must watch relevant films before putting pen/pencil/paintbrush/scissors/press/glue to paper/canvas/board/etc. So far, among the 44 submissions, some favorites include Frank (Dennis Hopper) from Blue Velvet by Peter Basden (above left) and scene-stealer crow (playing itself) in The Birds by Jose Feitor (above right). Brooklyn artists and illustrators take note: thus far there's a perplexing paucity of Wes Anderson and Coen Brothers characters. (ANIMAL)

Yeah, but you'd think there'd be many more than just the one (Charlie from Barton Fink, perhaps...).
