Man, I sure am looking forward to hearing this one outside the confines of my laptop and headphones. Toronto punk band
Fucked Up has a new 12" single coming out, via Merge, on September 28. It's the fourth installment in a series related to the Chinese Zodiac. They've already given us "Year of the Dog," "Year of the Rat," and "Year of the Pig," and now we get "Year of the Ox". which is
currently streaming over at Pitchfork. It's 13 minutes long and every bit as punishing and aggressive as everything we've come to expect from the 2009 Polaris Prize winners, but it also features guest vocals from Nika Roza Danilova of Zola Jesus and game-changing contributions from Toronto string quartet New Strings Old Puppets. It's refreshing and original and completely unexpected, anther upped ante from one of the best bands currently working.
