David Zwirner Gallery
Despite the closing of Artbook at X-Initiative in Februcary, Chelsea already has its share of artsy bookstores with 192 Books, the Chelsea Art Museum shop and Printed Matter, but none with quite the pedigree or deep back-catalog of rare books and artifacts as David Zwirner's First Annual Summer Pop-Up Bookstore. That catchily-named event/space/show/store takes over the Chelsea mega-gallery's 533 West 19th Street spot next week from August 9 to 13, opening daily from 10am-6pm and selling all kinds of items from the gallery's library and artists, including rare and out-of-print books, exhibition catalogs signed by artists, DVDs, "and more."

Based solely on the image scrolling across the gallery's site right now, those rare and autographed goodies will includes publications and discs of works by Dan Flavin, Marlene Dumas, Alice Neel, Chris Ofili, R. Crumb, Fred Sandback, Marcel Dzama, Adel Abdessemed and others. No word on whether any of the artists will attend, but if you see a bright neon green blur that's Flavin's ghost.

They're heeeere... That is, more Halloween horror favorites, a Canadian cult classic, and a restored Ken Jacobs film, which he discusses here.

An all-time great continues a theatrical revival run, a bumper crop of October horror, and an extraordinarily rare Kathy Acker film.
