The Best Thing About Yesterday's Prop 8 Ruling?

A turning point in the gay rights movement.

Well, the best thing about yesterday's ruling in California overturning the state's ban on gay marriage (never put emerging civil rights up to a referendum if you can help it!) is of course the forceful and sensible jurisprudence further creating a judicial precedent for gay civil rights.

The second best thing, though, about this gay marriage case which will almost certainly reach the Supreme Court and be deciding in a ruling to be studied by generations of schoolchildren, though, is the fact that—inasmuch as it's a lawsuit filed by a gay couple who named the state of California and its executive as respondent—it's called, yup, Perry v. Schwarzenegger.
