The War in Iraq Is "Over"

Posted By on Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 11:46 AM

The last American combat brigade has withdrawn from Iraq and about a fortnight ahead of the official August 31 changeover from "Operation Iraqi Freedom" to "Operation New Dawn".

50,000 American troops remain in Iraq, of course, to train and advise Iraqi security forces, and General Petraeus wants to slow down the timetable in Afghanistan.

Seven years and five months ago eating breakfast in a Florida hotel room, the TV turned to CNN as they were counting down to shock and awe, thinking I couldn't believe we were actually going to do something so obviously wrong. (At that point I didn't have a lot of experience in living through things that were obviously wrong.)
