I've just been listening to a special Brian Lehrer call-in show, on which he asked citizens of Tribeca to weigh in with their thoughts on Park51; after about a half-dozen very articulate pro-mosque callers, Lehrer basically stopped, saying, "We could go on like this all day, all of our Tribeca callers seem to be in favor of the project." Granted, this is a very unscientific, anecdotal sampling, but in the context of a national poll at 70 percent opposition, a NY state poll at 61 percent opposition, and NYC poll at 56 percent opposition, it seems to me that this "controversy" exists chiefly in the minds of political gameplayers setting the agenda for election season (which was always pretty obvious, but still).
