Man, it's hot out there today. We don't anticipate it being much cooler at Coco66 tonight either, where our buddies at FREEwilliamsburg are kicking off their new Thursday night music series called — are you ready for this? — FREEwilly. Like the captive whale! Apache Beat, for one, is not going to keep things low-key with their earthy electric tribal mishmash. Speaking of mishmash, Devonté Hynes of Lightspeed Champion knows a thing or two about throwing together Prince-like vocals and pulsing bass beats. This all becomes abundantly clear when listening to his new solo project, Blood Orange, just like it becomes abundantly clear that he's not going to cool things off with songs built around simmering "going to the bedroom, going to the bedroom" mantras (listen to "Champagne Coast" for proof). Meanwhile, minimalist synth and classical music duo We Are All Romans gives you a breather playing what sounds like a soundtrack to a silent film. Adding to FREEwilly fun: The boys from Beach Fossils DJ, there's an open bar starting at 7pm, and you can enter to win tickets by RSVPing at the event's Facebook page here.
