Last week I found myself driving across Linden Boulevard, running an errand on the Brooklyn-Queens border: it was, for me, a madeleine moment. You see, when I was a young teen in suburban Toronto, I listened to your excellent American hip-hop, soaking up whatever I could find, playing records in my friend Chris's garage. One of these was by Tribe Called Quest, a record called The Low-End Theory, featuring a song called "Check the Rime," which featured the opening line, "Back in the day on the Boulevard of Linden." And there I was, on the Boulevard of Linden, 18 years later... My 15-year-old self would've totally freaked.
