The Book of Mormon Musical
While New York City currently abounds with misrepresentations of religious groups, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of irreverent satirical cartoon South Park, will be premiering their largely historically accurate Mormonism musical on Broadway in February. The production—likely extrapolated from a famous SP episode—will begin previews at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on February 24 2011, with opening night set for March 24. Culture Monster notes that the musical will follow parallel storylines: two young Mormon missionaries working in a dangerous part of Uganda; and the story of church founder Joseph Smith. Assuming The Book of Mormon, a collabo between Parker, Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, is a success, maybe we'll finally get the Team America Broadway puppet musical that so clearly needs to exist one day.
