Let's Watch a Short Animation About That Time Werner Herzog Pulled Joaquin Phoenix From a Car Wreck

Right now, cinephiles are all a-flutter about Joaquin Phoenix—is I'm Still Here real or a hoax?—and Werner Herzog, whose 3D spelunking expedition doc just screened in Toronto.

By coincidence, cinephiles are also currently noting the DVD release of Herzog's nutty, affecting My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done, which features this brief animation about that time back in early 2006 when Werner Herzog took time out from his busy schedule of ducking insignificant bullets to pull then-Oscar-nominated Phoenix from the wreckage of his crashed, smouldering car, calming him with his profound, quirky accent. An accent you can hear as he narrates this paper cut-out reenactment:
