Art Watch 125 Shortlisted Videos for the Guggenheim's Crowd-Sourced YouTube Video Art Competition

YouTube and Guggenheim launch YouTube Play

Earlier this summer the Guggenheim announced an unusual web-based crowd-sourcing strategy for a show of new video art, YouTube Play, with quality control supposedly guaranteed by an impressive panel of art world celebrity judges. Now, per a press release sent out this morning, we can see just how all that went because the shortlist of 125 videos has been posted on YouTube. 20 winners from within this pool, which was whittled down from 23,000 submissions, will go on view at Gugg locations around the world on October 21.
