It's been announced via press release and blog post that Eugene Hernandez will be leaving indieWIRE, the active and influential independent film online community and news and views outlet he cofounded 15 years ago, to join the Film Society of Lincoln Center and new director Rose Kuo "in the newly created role of Director of Digital Strategy."

Per the FSLC's press release, this means, that "[m]ost immediately, Hernandez will work with current staff to hone the organization's website and digital messaging for Film Society programs. Additionally, Eugene will work to identify and secure digital partnerships for Film Comment and help develop a Film Society digital channel."

The FSLC is trying to engage in a more meaningful way with the city's younger moviegoers, as you may have noticed; Eugene's personal relationships and proven web acumen ought, certainly, to result in an FSLC that feels more present on the web (so producing videos? arranging streams and downloads? a more interactive filmlinc.com?), and, I'd surmise, in more active partnerships between the FSLC and other filmmaking and media groups.
